Back to School Partay

What better way to celebrate the kids going back to school then to throw every sort of food element onto a platter and serve it on the table?  Oh.  That and invite a few neighborhood friends over for a 'back to school' celebration.  That's exactly what we did over labor day weekend

We did manage to throw a few veggies into the mix.  But apparently, I need to work on my photography angles because these photos make the rest of the table look like a hot mess!  ha!  Those sandwiches look like my son's football team did a tackle right in the middle of them...and he doesn't even play FOOTBALL!

After 8 years of marriage, I've learned to pick my battles...so when my husband, EG, made a request to have a party pizza delivered to the house, I smiled my best lil ole June Cleaver grin and got out my lil cake platter serving piece.  And when he attempted to add the buffalo wings (a surprise addition) onto the table in their original Styrofoam container, I didn't even once reach for that meat cleaver.  Not. even. once.

It's amayzing what plenty of wine and xanax, er, I mean, lot's of party pre-planning will do...I just stuck those babies on these little old platters and, why, you would never guess that they weren't home-made right there in my very own kitchen?  Never.  Martha honey, phone me if you want the recipe.

Ok ya'll, don't be judgin my wackadilly post here!  When I took these snapshots I wasn't quite sure how I'd use them.  The first few guests had arrived and I didn't want to be conceited and spend fifteen minutes arranging my angles with the camera rather than serving myself drinks their drinks.  The motto in my house has become, "everything is a bloggable moment!" So, here we have my Mexican 7 layer dip and tortilla chips.

And by now, I am cracking myself up...because, yes I served fruit salad at the party...but I forgot to get a picture of it.  So here's a photo from the previous party I had where I served fruit salad in champagne glasses.  And yes, there were other items there too...but remember, I had literally 5 seconds to take a few quick shots...and no, I didn't take ANY of the guests!  I took them all of the food!

Well darn it all to hell.  If all else fails, just serve enough booze so that all of these little details are over looked and no one even remembers if you even served food at the damn party!  ....Did I even HAVE a party

Here were some sprigs of flowers over in the kitchen.

Lastly, this week marked the first day of school for our area.

My little girl started Preschool (in a new school with her brother) and my son started 1st grade.    I told my son that morning that if he was going to wear those orange neon shorts then he must select a darker, more subdued shirt for the top...I said, "honey, you only need ONE statement piece in your outfit."

I retold this to a mom on the playground that afternoon.  After careful reflection, the mom replied to me, "I don't believe we've EVER had that conversation  in our house."  haha.

How's your first week of September going!?
Any big plans for the weekend?
