House Tour: Dining Room

My dining room is a work in progress.  I have the necessities such as my china cabinet and dining table but am still working on the additional details.  True to my decorating tastes, I wanted to mix unexpected colors and patterns to create a more non-traditional eating space.

The chairs are Arden Park from Lillian August for Hickory White.  I fell in love with the Highland Court Zoe pattern (In Currant 180936H 338).   This textile was the first thing selected for the dining room.

My Lillian August decorator at the time was Holly Russo and she helped me find the Casamance Paris Texas fabric for the backs (361 40 40).  I love how the back seems simple and serene and then the fronts offer a pop of pattern.  The chairs are finished in a black leather contrast welt.

The rug was custom by Lillian August.  The chairs are definitely over stated so the more subtle design in the rug helps to calm the room.

The drapes are silk with hues of raspberry flowered embroidery.  They have a black velvet leading edge and a celery green silk finish.

Right now, the walls in the room are Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC-172.  It was a good neutral base when we were building our house, but once the drapes were put up, the wall color did nothing to enhance them.  Introducing, this fabulous Moroccan Grass cloth print by Phillip Jeffries.  It's on order now and I can't wait to have it installed!  (Thanks to my current Lillian August decorator, Lynne Methot, for finding this match.  Love it and it exudes my style).

I selected this Jonathan Adler Ventana Chandelier when we were building our house.  It's a perfect size for the room with the right amount of 'moderness.'   The hutch in the background is Crate and Barrel.  They don't usually feature such sleek dining room furniture.  It has a Danish modern feel to me.

Once the wallpaper is installed, I may consider painting the tray ceiling.  To see more on how much I love a painted ceiling, see here

And here are more samples of potential wall coverings for the room.  They were all very nice but in the end, I felt like the Moroccan weave was the most 'my style' and would also still be bright in the room.

Here's the view from the dining room into the foyer.

In the future, future, I'd love to have a sliding door system like this built into the foyer.  Sometimes when we have dinner guests, our voices travel right up the stairs where the kiddos are sleeping.  I think it would also add character to the entrance.  If anyone can tell me where to find fabulous doors like that, let me know!

I'll be sure to post updated photos of the dining room once the wall covering is installed and additional accessories are added.  If you'd like to see some of the other inspiration photos for my dining room, please feel free to check out my 'Dining' board on pinterest.  (This started as a repository for wallpapers that I wanted to consider for the room and has since grown into a space for all dining rooms that I love).

Big update:  the wallpaper is up!  check it out here
It's been a pleasure to show you around this room.  If you'd like to visit the rest of my house, you're welcome here anytime.

Master Bedroom Update

The effort to accessorize my master bedroom continues.  I've previously reported posts on this endeavor (more here).  Now, additional furniture items are in place, including the bedside tables, the x bench ottomans and the fireside chairs.  The bed linens are still a work in progress so don't scrutinize too closely.   (I must update immediately that this headboard has been replaced with the Serena and Lily Pondicherry Headboard.  I have to post an updated photo!!!)

The bedside tables are Worlds Away studly nightstands in marshmallow.  I love the mirrored tops (as long as the kiddos keep their little fingers from the surface).  The lamps are Worlds Away Powder Blue Pagoda.  The pagoda style is one of my favorites and the soft powder blue brings a nice mellow balance.  My hope is to carry the powder blue color into the duvet piping (picture a white hotel style duvet with powder blue piping ala Serena and Lily).

I covet a bed with a thousand pillows.  Most of these pillows are place holders, left over from my previous decor, but I plan to refurbish these depending on the duvet.

There are two fireside chairs with grey velvet fronts.  I love small subtleties in design so I chose a contrasting fabric for the back.

Each chair has highland court confetti backings (the same fabric as the x bench ottomans).  It's not noticeable unless you walk to the back of the chairs.  I didn't want it to be too "in your face" (there's enough of that in the room, ha!)  The only visible details from the front is the lemon colored contrast welt that frames the chairs.

Yes, silhouettes are still on the wall.  If I discover a better piece of art work, these may be relegated to a corner hallway or guest bedroom.  For now, this is their home.

I added these fuchsia faux tulips on the dresser for a pop of color.  The fuchsia pillows on the fireside chairs create a "triangle" of pink.  It's meant to carve a pattern for the eye.  And I have these cool Marrakesh pillows on their way...

You may recall the pink day bed that was originally placed at the foot of the bed...This was entirely too large in scale.  In fact, it was more like the size of a twin bed and it buried the room.  We were able to negotiate a return with Lillian August (thank goodness).

Original placement of the pink bench

The x benches were originally over by the Worlds Away Studly Dresser.  They didn't serve much of a purpose over there other than adding an additional pop of color (as if the room needed it)

Now, the Lee Industries X Ottoman benches are at the base of the bed.  They're a much better scale for the room.  And though my family misses lounging on the daybed, I continue to try to convince them that fabulous decor is not about comfort, but appearance (OK, just kidding about that.  Mostly).

And besides, they can still use the benches as a place to reside...

The fireplace is still lonely and needs some attention.

We've got this fabulous Michelle Armas on the way.  (Remember her from my previous post here).    If you've got a space that needs some color, you should check her out.  She now offers posters of her prints for a very reasonable price and it may give you just the oomph you need for your room.  Of course, originals are available online as well!  Everything for all budgets

I'm now on the hunt for a duvet that will compliment the room yet provide a neutral presence in the otherwise sea of vivid hues...(think crisp white with very fine details).

Some considerations:  John Robshaw, or Serena and Lily

House Tour: Master Bedroom Before/After

I have been taking my time to decorate my master bedroom because I want to make sure it is designed exactly how I want.  For the last 8 months, with great anticipation,  I have been waiting on carefully selected furniture to arrive.

Wait no moreA partial delivery arrived yesterday and I have some
before and "after" (in progress) pictures to share.

This yellow nightstand was one of two that my sister and I scored at a vintage consignment shop in Connecticut.  We fell in love with the bold yellow lacquer finish.  These nightstands initially inspired the use of the yellow in my room.

The first addition was the Marine Charing Cross Rug by Serena and Lily.  Love the color, love the pattern, love Serena and Lily.

Furniture arrives...

Love the Worlds Away "Studly" dresser.  It has a mirror top and stud details on top of marshmallow colored lacquer drawers.

I fell in love with this pattern from Highland Court.  It's Highland Court Confetti on Lee Industries X Benches.

This pink bench is Designer's Guild with the Highland Court Confetti as a contrast welt.  I loved the idea of this piece when ordering but now am concerned with the scale in the room (I thought it would be half the width as it is).

Now trying to determine where else to place this in the room so it doesn't seem so over bearing.  Still love it!  Love the pop of color.

Love this Christmas present from my sister... she knows my style because it's her style too!  The Jonathan Adler Antler Sculpture goes fabulously on top of my Tricia Guild coffee table books.   I still need to accessories and add character pieces to the room!  This is just the start.

What's to come...I had initially planned to add these Lee Industries fireside chairs by the fireplace.  The backs will be covered in the Highland Court confetti fabric (the same as the x benches).  I love the unexpected on the back!  But now I'm concerned with spacing and there's no way these guys will fit into the room without me knocking out the back wall and expanding the room by 10 feet...(ha)

These matching Worlds Away nightstand tables are going to replace the yellow ones that I have now.  I love those yellow ones...there new home will be in my son's room.

I need to add accessories!

Look out for my attempt to recreate Custera's silhouette portraits!

Please feel free to make suggestions and leave comment with your thoughts!  If you enjoy visiting this space, please add to your follow list!

I must give a thank you to Lillian August who is the source of the furniture in this room.  The in-store designers there helped to create this vision, especially Holly Russo!
