Kristen McCory JLH Showhouse Designer 2018

Last week, I posted details of our first ever Vivid Hue Home pop up shop located at the Junior League of Hartford's Designer Show house.  At the time, I had planned to showcase multiple designers every other day so you could see their spaces.  Of course, life got in the way and I didn't get a chance to post during the show house itself.  But I am still planning to share some of my favorite designers from the house.

To start, Kristin McCory Designs! McCory Interiors is a Connecticut based design firm that specializes in high-end residential & boutique storefront interior design throughout New England, the Mid-Atlantic, (including New York City) and beyond.

Kristen McCory is such a super talented interior designer.   I have become friends with her over the last several years as our worlds collide at different events (show houses and designer tablescape events).  Her foyer design from the 2015 Junior League of Hartford Designer Show house is still being circulated among National magazines, most currently the At Home Magazine May/June 2018 issue.

Here are a photos from that foyer In the Junior League of Hartford Designer Show house from 2015:

Now, fast forward to the Junior League Show House for 2018.  I was thrilled to have Kristen as one of my first floor buddies.  Kristen's space always "brings it" and this year is no different.  She worked night and day to fine tune this gorgeous space.  Here is Kristen's before and after of the dining room.

Yes, the transformation In photos is breath-taking.  And you should have seen it In person.  It truly was jaw dropping.  Here are some more progression photos of the space.

Kristen wallpapered the ceiling In Schumacher, Ludo, Color Piano Forte.   It made such a brilliant textural statement on the ceiling.

Kristen's attention to detail is incredible.  Every accessory had a place and every item In her room was well thought out.

Initially this trim was painted In a dark navy but, before the house launched, Kristen was adding additional detail and it ended up quite differently.

Kristen is known for her hand painted and trimmed floors.  And, yes, she does this entirely on her own!  This was her first passion before embarking on interior design and she is actually professionally trained In this.

The Flowers were by Kathleen Schwartz Flower Design who inspires florals In our Farmington Valley and beyond.

Every night, these anemones and orange ranunculus hibernated In the refrigerator so they'd be fresh for tours In the morning at the show house.  I saw  these beauties come out In the morning with closed petals and In a matter of no time, they opened back again, wide and ready for the day.  Amazing.

I love the story behind these tremendous vessels (there are two In the room).  Kristen acquired them from our local Revival Home Furnishings (which is a luxury consignment shop that curates high end furnishings and accessories and sells on 1st dibs and One Kings Lane).  They were lamps that Kristen transformed for a huge presence In her space.

We had a chance to relax (a bit) and enjoy the opening preview party on Friday April 27th, 2018.  Pictured here:  Kristen McCory, our friend and designer Georgia Zikas, and me--Heather Grahling from Vivid Hue Home.

Yes, these flowers were simply stunning.

Kristen McCory is absolutely one to follow.  Check out her website and instagram page to keep tabs on everything she is up to across New England.

I hope to highlight a few of the other amazing designers that participated In the Junior League Show House.

Cheers,

Heather

ORC Updates to Guest Room

Earlier this year, I made a major update to my guest bedroom.  Ya'll may recall that this was the room I selected to makeover for the Calling It Home One Room Challenge.   And my initial reveal for this room showed a Bohemian Chic meets Hollywood Regency transformation

The room went from a basic gray drab palette to dark navy walls (Sherwin William's SW6510 Loyal Blue) and a turquoise striped ceiling with a sputnik chandelier.  I loved the update, but I could never quite get the DIY turquoise ceiling stripes out of my head.  They were fun and daring but cheaply executed (by me).  I immediately embarked on my next mission of replacing those darned stripes with a more professional finish.  (aka, had to find the wallpaper of my dreams and then convince the husband to pay for the stuff).  Below, I'll take you through the latest transformation with this room.

Initial reveal after the March 2014 One Room Challenge:

Now

And voila!  Here's the latest.  I fell in love with Meg Braff's Roxy print.  (I'm a huge Meg Braff fan and have her 'Up In a Tree' Kelly Green paper in my mudroom, here).  The paper definitely gives a much more professionally decorated look to the room.

I also swapped out the previous sear sucker duvet for Trina Turk's Huntington Stripe Duvet

And added a few additional throw pillows for some pop.

A little reminder of Kennebunkport... (See why I love this place so much here).

What are your thoughts about this room?  What do you love?  What do you hate?  Do you think my guests will have a hard time falling to sleep at night?  Any changes you'd make to this room?
I'd love to hear your feedback!

Also, check back soon for an exciting giveaway that I'll be featuring on my site!

Family "Joins" The Master

You may recall that I've been updating the master bedroom.  (You can check out the before and "in progress" pictures here).

This weekend, I finished my family silhouettes and added them to the master above the bed.
I first taped the wall to ensure proper placement (and to limit the number of aimless nail holes it usually takes until I get it right).

One by one, each member of our family joined the wall.

I don't think I showed the fabulous steel blue
pagoda lamps in my last progress.  I love these guys.

The yellow nightstands are temporary and will be replaced by these:

I think the marshmallow studly
dresser will allow the pagoda lamp to really pop!

I also decided to put my Ribbon Louis XV chair upstairs in the room as a temporary placement until I find out if the gray fireside chairs will fit in there.  I fell in love with this Dransfield and Ross chair for it's color.  And you know by now, I love my color

This continues to be a work in progress.  I will be updating the accessories, adding pillows, updating the bedding and a throw.  All in due time.

For now, my next DIY project is to reupholster a vanity stool to replace this $6 stool from Ikea that I've used for years!  Stay tuned for the updated stool!

Until next time.  xoxo

House Tour: Master Bedroom Before/After

I have been taking my time to decorate my master bedroom because I want to make sure it is designed exactly how I want.  For the last 8 months, with great anticipation,  I have been waiting on carefully selected furniture to arrive.

Wait no moreA partial delivery arrived yesterday and I have some
before and "after" (in progress) pictures to share.

This yellow nightstand was one of two that my sister and I scored at a vintage consignment shop in Connecticut.  We fell in love with the bold yellow lacquer finish.  These nightstands initially inspired the use of the yellow in my room.

The first addition was the Marine Charing Cross Rug by Serena and Lily.  Love the color, love the pattern, love Serena and Lily.

Furniture arrives...

Love the Worlds Away "Studly" dresser.  It has a mirror top and stud details on top of marshmallow colored lacquer drawers.

I fell in love with this pattern from Highland Court.  It's Highland Court Confetti on Lee Industries X Benches.

This pink bench is Designer's Guild with the Highland Court Confetti as a contrast welt.  I loved the idea of this piece when ordering but now am concerned with the scale in the room (I thought it would be half the width as it is).

Now trying to determine where else to place this in the room so it doesn't seem so over bearing.  Still love it!  Love the pop of color.

Love this Christmas present from my sister... she knows my style because it's her style too!  The Jonathan Adler Antler Sculpture goes fabulously on top of my Tricia Guild coffee table books.   I still need to accessories and add character pieces to the room!  This is just the start.

What's to come...I had initially planned to add these Lee Industries fireside chairs by the fireplace.  The backs will be covered in the Highland Court confetti fabric (the same as the x benches).  I love the unexpected on the back!  But now I'm concerned with spacing and there's no way these guys will fit into the room without me knocking out the back wall and expanding the room by 10 feet...(ha)

These matching Worlds Away nightstand tables are going to replace the yellow ones that I have now.  I love those yellow ones...there new home will be in my son's room.

I need to add accessories!

Look out for my attempt to recreate Custera's silhouette portraits!

Please feel free to make suggestions and leave comment with your thoughts!  If you enjoy visiting this space, please add to your follow list!

I must give a thank you to Lillian August who is the source of the furniture in this room.  The in-store designers there helped to create this vision, especially Holly Russo!

Update:  See how the silhouette's
turned out here
