Vivid Hue Home, for the holidays

We've got holiday on the brain, ya'll.  We'll be sharing more very soon but right now we are busy finalizing the details around the annual showcase of tablescapes "dressed for celebration" presented by the Connecticut Valley Garden Club.

This is our first year having a table.  We'll be among 25 other decorators and designers that create a tables cape.  This event is open to the public starting this Friday.  Tours are Friday 10-5pm and Saturday 10-5pm.  Tickets can be purchased online here for $25 or $30 at the door.

Please come see the tour if you're local.  I'm always amazed at the creativity at this event.

Christmas Garland and Tree Tour

 I tell ya, I don't care how early I start every year, the decorating seems endless.  Good thing I love it.  I've been making a trip to the craft store daily for additional lights, garland and berries.  I've managed to tackle the "big stuff" and now have to accessorize the mantles and table tops. 

Here's a glimpse at the stairwells and a few of the trees.  I promise to share more once I get the entire rooms complete!

Garland and lights are on our main stairs with berries.  Our celebration season seems to get longer and longer each year and several years ago I caved and decided to use faux greenery to help supplement my decorating.  It allows me to have Christmas decorations from Thanksgiving through New Year's without worrying about wilting and crackling needles. 

On the other hand, nothing beats the real stuff so as it gets closer to our Christmas party and out-of-town guests arriving, I try to stick in branches of real greenery.  Mmmmm, love the smell of fresh greenery!

 

We moved into the Somersby house four years ago and I started the tradition then of decorating several rooms with differently themed trees.  For example, in the study, there are peacocks, pheasants and feathers....View non-Christmas photos of the Study here.

In the sun room, it's more whimsical with colored balls and glitz and glam.  Completely over the top but I have fun with it.  View other photos of the sun room here.  
 

 

The living room has the tree with all of our "meaningful family ornaments."  Whenever we visit a vacation spot or take a family trip, we buy an ornament to remind us of our travels.  View last year's family room at Christmas here.  View the family in it's usual state of décor, here.   

I've tried to get a jump start on the wrapping. 

And I've put garland up the back staircase from the mudroom to the upstairs.  Love the pop of berries against the Meg Braff green wallcovering!

I still have plenty of work left to do.  I will use fresh greenery on the fireplace mantles and consoles.  I also add it in key locations (e.g. dining room) with a centerpiece.  View the dining room with last year's Christmas tablescape, here.

T-Day, V-Day, X-day.....

 Talk about a seasonal weekend.  At one point, I had Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day and Christmas decorations all up in the house.  What is it about this year that has me practically skipping right over turkey day?  I've always been one of those people that feels strongly about not celebrating one holiday until the current one has passed. 

Not. This. Year. 

Here's how my weekend went down. 

Harvest themed flowers were on my breakfast table.  A nice little surprise from my husband. 

 

A fun little (surprise) project in early December had me experimenting with Valentine's Day tablescapes.  I'm torn between introducing mixed china and soft colors or keeping it completely neutral (all white).  Ya'll know I'm a color girl at heart so it's so difficult for me not to pull out the color! 

 

I received the libations bar cart as an early Christmas present and I'm dying to jump into styling the cart.  I picked up this faux-snake skin lamp base on clearance at Targay this weekend. 

I also got these little flower arrangements because I thought I could use them on my V-Day tablescape. 

Here's a sample shot of me playing around with the all white theme.  Do you know how difficult it is to find Valentine's day type items during Christmas season?   

 

 

I went to a Holiday Tablescape event this weekend with some girlfriends and spotted this cleaver DIY sphere on a table that had been decorated all for under $100.   This close up makes it easy to see that it's a Styrofoam ball with straws spray painted but from afar, this was eye-catching and unique!  Such a fun idea. 

 

And I wasn't going to admit this to ya'll...but yes, we hauled out a few of the trees this weekend.  We weren't going to fully decorate them but then one thing lead to another.  It's just less for me to have to do after Thanksgiving so I don't mind so much!
