Meg Finally Gets a Mirror!

 

Ya'll may recall that I added the Meg Braff wallpaper to my mudroom this summer and I was psyched to spruce it it up!  I'd had my eye on the Meg Braff Up in a Tree wallpaper for some time but I wasn't sure where to put it in my home.  Finally, I settled on the mudroom and was thrilled with the result. 

Only...after the paper was added, I have been so nervous to add anything else to the walls because I've wanted to make sure it would be "just right."

I *almost* purchased a navy pagoda mirror from One King's Lane for $500 but never pulled the trigger because it just didn't seem right. 

Well today, on a whim, I was shopping around TJ Maxx...I spotted a white mirror for $39.99.   Don't ask me why today...but I decided to buy the $39 mirror and tack holes into the paper!  I've waited long enough. 

I may still paint the mirror a lacquered navy but, for now, I'm going to sit with it as white. 

What do you think? 

Keep it white?  Or paint it navy?

PS--You see the turquoise door in the background?  I'm contemplating painting that a glossy navy too (so mirror and door would all match).  Ah...things are always changing!

But I am very happy to score the mirror for such a great price.

Any other ideas of what to add to the other walls?  I've been terrified to put any holes into the paper but now that the first ones have been done, it's sort of freeing!

After Photos of the Meg Braff Mudroom

So as you know, the Meg Braff found it's home in my mudroom (see Mudroom Gets Groovy).   I am thrilled with the results.  Yes, it's over the top.  But it's just the oomph I was looking for.  I will never walk from the garage into the kitchen without noticing this transitional space again! 

Now keep in mind, this is still very much a work in progress.  In fact, I have decided to paint the door a darker turquoise and haven't done so yet.  The finished product will be an ultra high gloss.  Also, I have done NO STYLING in this room yet!  I want to find a chinoiserie mirror.  All in due time!

Mudroom Gets Groovy

 The mudroom is ready for the Meg Braff Up In A Tree Bamboo Green install!  (If you missed it, I decided to put this wallpaper in my mudroom...read more here).  

The install is happening TODAY!

 

How did this all go down?  Ya'll know I had to have this paper *somewhere* in my house!  Literally about a month ago, I was walking around my house with the sample swatch desperately trying to find it's home.  That's when it happened.  That light bulb moment.  I recalled Annie Selke's  garage painted in brightly colored vertical stripes (see here).  This transcended into her mudroom.  She was quoted saying "Why live like a cave dweller?"

Suddenly, it all made sense!  Now granted, I'm not painting vertical stripes in my garage/mudroom.  But it's the same concept.  Why can't a transitional, usually functional space have pizazz and spunk!? 

Introducing, the before photos of my mudroom.  It will never be the same again.  (Thank Goodness)

And Annie, honey, thank you for the inspiration that I've held onto for years!  I have finally put it to good use!!!

 

 

 

So now it should all make sense...here's that mudroom door I wanted to paint in a high gloss...The choices were a) turquoise, b) tangerine, c) yellow, d) black lacquer e) other...

 I decided to go the turquoise route for starters. I am starting with Benjamin Moore Tropicana Cabana 2048-50 first. I've done the first coat. Will let it sit overnight and see how it looks once the paper is installed tomorrow. If it's not bold enough I also bought the next darker turquoise, Ben Moore Poolside Blue 2048-40. If I'm not in love with that, then I'll do the black lacquer!

Up In a Tree Lands in the Mud!

My infatuation with Meg Braff's Up in a Tree Bamboo Green Wallpaper is no secret. As soon as I spotted it, I knew I must have it *somewhere* in my house.

It started with the guest bedroom.  I created my little Olioboard with bursts of orange crush velvet and a chinoiserie mirror...

Shortly thereafter, I decided to try the Meg Braff in the sunroom instead (read more here).   I loved the idea of mixing the green and turquoise, but I was always a bit hesitant of getting rid of the turquoise walls that I love so much in that room! 



So my mind continued to think of any other room in the house.  I considered powder rooms.  But I loved this paper so much, I wanted it to be a STATEMENT piece in the house.  And then it happened.  The 'aha' moment!  I recalled the Annie Selke mudroom that I'd seen in House Beautiful and I loved it so much because it was so colorful!

 It occurred to me, the mudroom is one transitional area of the house that is overlooked.  We come into the house from the garage and cross right through to the kitchen.  Our mudroom is crisp and clean (haha, for the most part) but it has no pizazz!  Nothing to write home about. 

WELL YOU JUST WAIT!

Tada.....that Meg Braff paper is going in my MUDROOM people!  From head to toe!  And to top it off, I am going to paint my mudroom interior door a bright color!

Meg Braff on One King's Lane Tonight

So I was just browsing the posts from some of the fabulous bloggers I follow and I spotted the best scoop ever (for me) at The Pink Pagoda.

Up In A Tree with Meg Braff

Meg Braff Up In A Tree

Allow me to make an introduction...My new favorite wallpaper, Meg Braff's Up in a Tree wallpaper in Bamboo Green.  It was an instant love attraction the second I laid eyes on this design.  Even better, Meg Braff's papers are exclusive to her and can be ordered directly by consumers.  I want this for my guest bedroom! 

I have a wonderfully striped ottoman with plush velvet colors of tangerine, violet, cranberry and more.   It was the first thing I purchased for the room and I fully intend to decorate the entire style of the room around this one single piece.  (We've all been there, gals.  You find the perfect shoes before the dress?  Yup.  Same sitch). 

I had some fun on Olioboard and here's one possible vision...

I want to go completely design crazy in this room. Some of my thoughts in how to do this include:

1. wallpaper the ceiling a stripe (tangerine or fuchsia)

2. paint the trim a bright color (instead of traditional white)

3. keep all furniture items white with the accent fabrics and accessories in bright colors

4. use tangerine tango color or fuchsia as my accent color

 

Here are some other options that are being considered (though I had a soulmate connection with the Meg Braff Bamboo Green...as soon as I saw it, I immediately sensed it was "the one")

I like the blossoms at the very top of the picture the 2nd best.  The others are nice but I don't want to be too conservative in this room. 

I'll keep ya'll posted on how this all nets out! 

 

Update August 2013:  So, the Meg Braff didn't end up in my guest bedroom, but I think you'll be thrilled to see how it looks in my mudroom...check it out here
